2008 Michigan Cup
Tournament Summary
The second year of the Tournament saw the field double to 8 teams in two divisions. The American Division included the Pontiac Parkers, SCS Red Sox, SCS Reds, Marysville Braves; and the National Division included the SCS Angles, Troy Titans, SCS Blue Cubs and SCS White Cubs.
The Parkers and Red Sox advanced to the Semi-Finals from the American Division and the Angels and White Cubs advanced from the National Division. In the Semis the Parkers beat the Cubs 10-0, while the Angles beat the Red Sox 2-0.
In the final the Angels jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but the Parkers came back with four of their own in the bottom of the first. In the second there was no scoring despite the Parkers loading the bases with two-outs. In the third though the Angels scored three runs to take a 5-4 lead and then they added another run in the fifth. The Parkers came back with a run in the sixth on a triple and a wild pitch to bring the Parkers to within one at 6-5. In the seventh the Angles loaded the bases with one out but were turned away as the Parkers were able to turn two. In the Parkers half of the seventh they tied it up on an infield hit, a sac-bunt and a single to tie the score at 6-6. In the bottom of the eighth the Parkers got a lead off single and then the Angels were not able to retire anyone on an attempted sac-bunt. The Parkers sacrificed again moving runners to second and third but the next hitter grounded to short and the runner from third was thrown out and then a pinch hitter struck out. In the ninth the Angels got a double and a stolen base to get a man on third and no outs. On an 0-2 count the hitter hit a fly to left and the runner from third tagged and just beat the throw at home for the go-ahead and eventual winning run. The Parkers went down in order in the ninth to finish off an exciting finals and give the Angles the 7-6 victory.
