2009 Michigan Cup
Tournament Summary
The third year of the Tournament brought in more teams as the Tournament was expanded to 12 teams. Group A: SCS Marlins, Jet Box, Detroit Giants, and the SCS Brewers. Group B: SCS Cubs, Pontiac Parkers, Eastside Pirates, and the Detroit Cardinals. Group C: SCS Red Sox, Metro Tiger All-Stars, Michigan Tigers and Detroit HG3.
The Marlins, Cubs and Red Sox all won their Division with the Parkers and Metro Tigers grabbing the Wild Card spots. In the Wild Card game the Metro Tigers edged out the Parkers 2-1. In the Semis the Red Sox beat the Cubs 3-0 and the Marlins beat the Metro Tigers 10-9.
In the Championship game the SCS City Pub Red Sox beat the SCS Marlins 4-0. Dave Lemieux threw a 9-inning complete game shutout. Lemieux struckout five. Jon Van Son had a solo homer and a double and drove in three for the game. E.L. McGoy had two hits, Ryan Sulak doubled and Scott MacDonald and Marcus Williams each had a hit. The tournament MVP is Jon Van Son, Dave Lemieux wins the tournament Cy Young Award and Ryan Sulak wins the Gold Glove Award.
