Tournament Rules
All MABL National Rules and Regulations will be strictly enforced, in addition to the following rules.
1. A coin flip determines Home & Visitor for Round Robin Play. The top seeded team will be the Home Team for the Semifinals and Finals.
2. Infield practice will be allowed before your 1st game of the day only. Home Team will take infield 25 minutes prior to game time (10 minutes), with the Visiting Team taking infield afterwards for 10 minutes.
3. Only wood and composite wood bats are allowed, no metal bats at all.
4. All games are 9-innings.
5. Rosters may contain no more than 25 players.
6. All players must be 18 years of age or older at the time of the tournament.
7. New baseballs will be supplied to each team.
8. There is no time-limit for the games.
9. There is no mercy rule for this tournament.
10. No alcoholic beverages will be permitted in the dugouts, fields, parking lots, or anywhere on the facility in which the games are played.
11. All teams must bat a minimum of 10 batters. A/B batting positions can be used, but you must still use 10 positions in the batting line-up.
12. Any rostered player can play in the field, even if they are not in the batting lineup.
13. Any player or manager ejected from a game will be automatically suspended for the next game. No exceptions.
14. Each team may have a courtesy runner for the current pitcher and catcher only. The last batted out would be the courtesy runner. This rule is OPTIONAL.
15. Managers should have a copy of each player’s driver’s license/ID, in case there is a concern about his eligibility.
16. Field Designations: Kyte-A = Kyte Monroe Field A, Kyte-1 = Kyte Monroe Field 1, BG = Bishop Gallagher Sports Complex (not the school), Manz = Manz Field Detroit, and Fraser=Fraser High School.
17. All players must slide on plays at any base (including home) and attempt to avoid contact. If contact is made it is up to the discretion of the umpire on intent of the runner.
18. First tie-breaker will be head-to-head. Second will be runs against and third will be runs for. Fourth tie-breaker will be coin flip.
19. All lineups must be given to the umpire and opposition prior to the game.
20. All players must be in full uniform with a number (uniforms do NOT have to be matching but they must be regular baseball uniforms with a number on the back).
21. After each game the result must be reported immediately by both teams to 248-709-8113 (text).
22. Rainouts will be made up Sunday morning and if necessary games may be shortened to 7 innings.
23. In the event of a tie after 9 complete innings ONE additional inning ONLY will be played to try to break the tie after that it goes down as a tie (except for the semi-finals and finals where the game will be played until a winner is determined).
24. In the event of rain if the game has completed 6 innings (or 5.5 if the home team is winning) the game is official. Note this is one inning longer than regular MLB rules to help with the RA and RF tiebreakers. Games that do not reach the inning threshold will be suspended games and start back up from where they left off.
25. The tournament will have 6 teams this year. The Round 1 (Round Robin Play) will consist of three games by each team. After Round 1 the top four teams by record (following all tie-breaker rules) will play in the Semi-Finals. The Semi-Finals will be the first place team versus the fourth place team and the second place team versus the third place team. The Finals will be the winner of the two Semi-Final games.
IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS, CONCERNS OR ISSUES WITH THE ABOVE RULES OR ANY ISSUES THAT HAPPEN ON THE FIELD PLEASE CALL MIKE DAWSON ASAP AT 248-709-8113.
